Horn & Brannen Brass Basket Weave Semi-Flush Mount Light Fixture - 1920s
$2,195.00
This is a Horn & Brannen semi-flush ceiling light fixture, a high-quality American piece from the early 20th century (circa 1920s), combining classical detailing with refined architectural restraint.
Description:
An elegant, solid brass semi-flush mount by Horn & Brannen Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia, identified by the original maker’s label on the canopy. The fixture features a drum form with white glass panels (bent around the sides) set within a cross-hatched brass lattice. The latticework creates a tailored, architectural look while allowing even, diffused light.
Both the upper and lower edges, as well as the canopy, are finished with twisted rope-edge brass trim. The rosette fasteners at the perimeter, not only connect the fixture body to the shade, they also reinforce the classical design.
Inside, the fixture retains its original three-socket cluster (Bryant sockets - all original), arranged around a central column with graceful curved arms. It is designed for strong ambient illumination while maintaining a refined, period-correct appearance.
The canopy is substantial and well-finished, with the original “Horn & Brannen Mfg. Co. – Superior Quality” label intact—an important authenticity marker. The fixture presents with the original, unadulterated finish and patina. The finish shows only minor age related wear, and a little ceiling paint around the rope on the canopy.
Ideal for foyers, hallways, dining rooms, libraries, or period interiors. The semi-flush profile makes it quite suitable for rooms with standard ceiling heights
A distinguished, quality example of early American decorative lighting—solidly constructed, visually balanced, and unmistakably the work of one of the better lighting manufacturers of the era.
Fully rewired and ready to hang with the included hardware. The crossbar and new threaded pipe were added to replace the retro-fitting previously used to attach to gas pipe.
Measures (approx):
15-5/8"H overall
15-7/8"W overall
